ADVERTISEMENTS
After years of excessive speeding from drivers cruising down Northwest Germantown Road, the City of Portland will install five speed bumps on Saturday.
The road will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as crews install speed bumps between Lilac and Bridge avenues.
Motorists and bicyclists are advised to use alternative routes, such as Northwest Cornell or West Burnside roads.
The $16,000 project was financed by residents of the area concerned with the speed of traffic approaching the Highway 30 and St. Johns Bridge interchange. This residential stretch of Germantown has a 25 mph posted speed but City or Portland data shows that 85 percent of vehicles travel about 35 mph.
A mechanics dream come true. More service work on steering racks, shocks, brakes, suspensions, etc. Definitely a 'green' move.

I don't want people driving up my street at all. Can I convince the city to install a barrier at my expense?

Perhaps they should have raised the speed limit to 35mph instead?
Typical nanny government.

I think we should all honk when going over speed bumps. I bet the people living on the street would beg for the bumps to be removed!

Re: Steer clear of Germantown Road Saturday
Whoo hoooo. Now we can really play Dukes of Hazzard while racing Boss Hogg. We were getting bored of the old road anyway; this will enliven our routine!! Yeeehhhaaaww!
