A 28-year-old former Gresham resident has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2023 shooting death of Pedro Antonio Prieto-Lopez.

Dwight Deshawn Dew Jr. was charged with first-degree manslaughter in connection with Prieto-Lopez’s death, following an indictment handed down by a grand jury Jan. 31, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Dew Jr. also was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a machine gun.

The May 18, 2023, shooting was reported by a security guard who heard gunshots at the intersection of Southwest Hall Boulevard and Locust Street in the Metzger area, an unincorporated area of Washington County. That security guard discovered that Prieto-Lopez had severe injuries. Both Beaverton and Tigard police officers responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures before paramedics arrived to take the victim to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office reported that Dew Jr. was already in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections when the latest indictment was handed down, having pleaded guilty in August 2024 on a separate case of promoting prostitution in Washington County. As a result, he was returned to the Washington County jail and arraigned on the new indictment.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the case and anyone with information should call 503-846-2500 and reference case 50-23-7474.
