Beaverton police have arrested a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run incident Monday morning, May 5, on Highway 26.
Beaverton police public information officer Matt Henderson said that about 6:15 a.m., a westbound Kia sideswiped a motorcyclist in what appeared to be an act of road rage, knocking him off his motorcycle near Highway 217 and Cedar Hills Boulevard. Police believe the incident was intentional.
The motorcyclist was sent to a hospital after sustaining serious injuries but was quickly discharged.
“We released the video, it went viral, or what I call viral, pretty quickly,” Henderson said. “We received dozens of community tips … We were able to do a traffic stop on him and apprehend him.”
Rock Creek-area resident Samir Helio Pazzoto-Filho, 41, was arrested Monday evening after officers responded to a tip from a community member, which led police to Pazzoto-Filho’s residence near Highway 26 and Southwest 185th Avenue.
Investigators believe Pazzoto-Filho had been driving recklessly in the days prior to the Monday morning incident.
Lodged at the Washington County jail, Pazzoto-Filho has been charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons.
Members of the Washington County Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team were investigating the incident.
